Franken-sandwich

Thursday Oct. 28th

I'm making my little man's Birthday cakes and I just put one into the oven so I thought I'd post before I wouldn't have time to later:o) Well for today I thought I'd try to make a Frankenstein of some sort, and it has been a while since I gave the kids a sandwich for lunch. So the first thing I did for the sandwich was paint the bread green with food coloring. The hair is nori which I was pleasantly surprised to find out that my kids actually like! And his eyes are cheese circles with nori pupils. I also used cauliflower for the bolts.  Alaysia's-->
has some kiwi, orange, broccoli and a tiny box of nerds.

Here's Z's with raisins instead of kiwi.

Spiders!!

Wednesday Oct. 27th

Can't believe that October is almost over:( I've been having so much fun with these spooky inspired lunches. We'll have to think of some extra special lunches to end this week off before Halloween!! But I'm not too sad because there are more holidays coming up and that means more cute lunches to come!
This morning I made the kids some more sausage "spiders" and they came out looking a lot better than last time...
So today Miss Alaysia has some sausage spiders over white rice, some brocoli and cauliflower,  pineapple and jack-o-carrots!

Z again has the same in a smaller portion.

Very hungry pasta!

Tuesday Oct. 26th

So there's no question to what my kids favorite thing to eat is....Pasta! They can have it for breakfast lunch and dinner everyday and I swear they would never get sick of it! I try and make it for them in different shapes and colors but today was a new way for them to have it. I bought some big shells the other day and thought why not have the past try and eat them for a change?? I kinda thought they looked like clams at first but my son said look its trying to eat me and ta da!
This is Alaysia's she has 4 meat and marinara stuffed past shells with candy eyes, cucumber slices, some of our last cherry tomatoes from the garden, oranges, and pear.

And Z only wanted pasta for lunch but I still packed him some fruit and cucumber.

Just left overs...

Monday Oct. 25th

So I haven't been feeling very well lately so I didn't post yesterday's lunch:( But I am feeling better today so here it is...
So this one is Z's lunch and like I said before I haven't been feeling well so they basically had left overs^_^ There's a honey BBQ glazed chicken drumstick, some carrots, pretzels, and homemade chocolate pudding with sprinkles. Pretty simple but he said he LOVED the chicken and pudding.

Alaysia's basically has the same but she has some rice under her chicken and a carrot moon with a ham bat, and also some kiwi.

Killer Quesadillas!

Friday Oct. 22nd

This morning I woke up soooo late! I had no idea what to make since I was half asleep still so I made the easiest thing I could think of....quesadillas! The kids had to have a bowl of cereal too and I felt kinda guilty just sending them to school with this small snack since they didn't have a good breakfast:( But they didn't mind too much and I made them an extra healthy lunch after school! So anyway on to their super quick (like 10mins total) lunch...
This is Miss Alaysia's lunch she had killer quesadillas, kiwi, strawberry, baby carrots and some left over beans to dip.

Z has yogurt instead of beans and no kiwi. Not bad for such a quick lunch! I almost didn't even have time for the picture either:o)

eek a mouse!!!

Thursday Oct. 21st

Today I had a bunch of mac and cheese left over from the kids dinner yesterday and I wanted to reuse it for their snack lunch today. And Alaysia felt a little left out because she didn't have any mini sausages in her lunch yesterday so that was a perfect start to todays lunch. I just had to figure out how to combine the two... hmm... mice like cheese so they should also like mac and cheese too right?? Well thats the idea I went with today so they had a few sausage mice over their mac and cheese for lunch along with a mix of different fruits. I added a tutorial for my little mice too!

Z's lunch.

Alaysia's lunch.

Sausage Mouse Tutorial:

So first you need you mini sausage and a sharp knife:)
Then slice off the tip and two slices the same thickness.

Next make a slit down the top of the round end making sure it's not go down too far.
Then insert the two little rounds in the slit to make the ears.
And that's it! You're done!
Or you can add cute little details or faces to them. I used these sprinkles I found at Target for the nose and whiskers along with candy eyes:)

Witches and spiders...

Wednesday Oct. 20th

This morning my kiddos wanted two different themed lunches and since I was in a good mood I actually did it:) Alaysia really liked the witches they had a while ago and Z wanted spiders in in Spiderman lunch box. So I made them both and was surprised at how easy it really was, it only took a few extra minutes for two different themes so I may do this for them again. So I pleased them both and impressed myself and this is what they had...
Here's Z's lunch with a little sausage spider on a web of cheese, some pineapple, a strawberry, and sliced cucumber.
Alaysia's has two little witches that are peanut butter with marshmallow fluff  in a slice of wheat bread with green colored carrot hair, candy eyes, olive smile and one of Z's sausage pieces for the nose. Behind the witches is cucumber slices, a strawberry and two broom sticks made from a cheese stick and some ham.

Cheese ham and crackers...

Tuesday Oct. 19th

This post was for yesterday. And my oh my was yesterday a hectic day! First of all I couldn't find my camera that morning hence the crummy pictures:) then my son forgot his folder, then I was off to an appointment, then off to pick up the kids from school only to come back an hour later for parent conferences and then had to come home and rush dinner. And while making dinner my son's new bff from school that lives down the street came over for their play date. Whew what a day!! So I still wanted to share their lunches that they had and here they are...

This was Z's simple snack lunch of cheese, ham and crackers, cantaloupe and strawberries.
And Alaysia's has the same:)

Animals...

This week the kiddos have minimum days so I will have to pack snack sized lunches for both of them. It's actually more difficult for me for some reason:) So today was the perfect day to use their smaller sized boxes that I got for them a while ago at the dollar store. They are cute little round containers with animal faces as lids and I've never used them for some reason, but today they make their debut..

Z's has a panda face lid and in it he has two pb&j sandwiches, some carrots and sugar snap peas, mandarin oranges and raspberries with a panda pick:)

Alaysia's has a giraffe lid and she has the same as Z's with her giraffe pick in the oranges.

Look, My Lunch Is Looking Back At Me!!

Friday Oct. 15th

Good morning everyone! This morning the kids said they really wanted dumplings and I was soo worried that I had run out of the ones we made a few weeks ago. Luckily I had six lone little dumpling stored away in my freezer!! I wasn't even sure what to do with them to make them spooky looking but then I saw one of my son's vampire fangs on the kitchen table and....Viola! a perfect addition to boring looking dumplings. They turned out really cute! I couldn't find the other teeth we had for the other lunch box, but of course that just sparked another idea:o) I stuffed a slice of ham in a little slit I made to make a silly little tongue sticking out. This is how they look...
Z has the two silly faced dumplings with a ham tongue and cheese eyes secured with a spaghetti noodle. Two ham and cheese kabobs and some wheat thins, carrot "confetti", half a tiny apple and a few raspberries. This looks like a little bit of food but he's going to end up eating when he gets home anyways so I'm not too worried:)
And this is Alaysia's she has four dumplings with the vampire teeth and cheese eyes, some carrot "confetti" the other half of the apple, peanut butter filled pretzels, raspberries, pineapple, and banana chips.

A Creepy Crawly Lunch

Thursday Oct. 14th

So today I have another lunch that I was planning to use as a Halloween-ish lunch. I saw these cute little bug shaped pasta in different colors and wasn't too sure how I would use it so I ended up putting it in the very back of my pantry until today! Today they had some left over chicken and I made the pasta as a cute little side along with a few creepy crawly little bugs to tie it all together. And this is what they had...
Isn't this cute..or would it be creepy?
So Miss Alaysia's lunch from left to right has: some baby carrot flowers, sugar snap peas, pineapple chunks, a BBQ chicken drumstick, sliced cucumbers, the buggy shaped pasta with herbs and butter and Parmesan cheese, and some raspberries.
And Z has a smaller portion of the same thing without the cucumbers because they didn't fit but he ate them right after his breakfast:)

Wednesday Oct. 13th

I just love this month! It's so fun to think of new ideas for my kiddos lunches everyday, but there's just something about making Halloween inspired lunches that I extra fun. I have so many cute ideas in my head that when it comes to making their lunches I get a little overwhelmed:) I decided to make a list of things that I want to try out for this month and today was one of them...
Z's lunch has homemade whole wheat pasta, homemade meatballs and homemade sauce sprinkled with Parmesan cheese. Some cheese stick fingers with olive nails. Bottom has jicama ghosts, mini nutter butters,  raspberries, and a jack o' lantern made out of sliced mandarin orange slices.

I have to remember that he is only in kindergarten and has a shorter lunch break. It also doesn't help that he eats like a birdy, so I try to make his portions smaller and try to include a lot of finger foods. I was going to make him some meatball kabobs with sauce to dip but today he insisted on having pasta too.

Alaysia's is the same with more pasta, and she also has a small tub of yogurt in the far left corner.

Tuesday Oct. 12th

Alaysia's

Smaller portions for Z =)

Whew...What a long day I had today! Well anyhow, this morning the kiddos had pizza on the mind this morning so thats what they had. I attempted to make a monster and think it came out looking pretty spooky or gross at least:) So they had half and english muffin pizza with homemade sauce, pineapple, ham, and mozzarella cheese. Some strawberry, pineapple, carrot, sugar snap peas, mini Oreo's, and  Alaysia had some kiwi.

Friday October 8th

Happy Friday everyone! My kiddos didn't go to school this morning because they were feeling sick=( But that doesn't mean they don't get an awesome lunch! Since they were home with me I had them make it themselves. I normally don't use store bought doughs for anything but I did this time. We used Pillsbury croissants to wrap up some turkey weenies to look like mummies. They had fun with this and it wasn't at all difficult or messy. I also got to use some new boxes that I just bought. They aren't very cute but are perfectly sized and come with and ice pack under the lid I absolutely love them! Just in case you're interested hey are called Fit and fresh and I got them at Ross it came as a two pack. Well anyways on to the pictures...
So today we have a some cucumber slices, baby carrots, some ketchup, mandarin oranges, a jack o'lantern apple from grandpa's tree, a strawberry and the mummy dog.

This is the same box just a different view=)

Thursday Oct. 7th

This morning after being woken up way too early by my little guy, I had plenty of time for lunches so I decided to make some chicken enchiladas for lunch. Surprisingly they were very quick and easy! I always have shredded cheese on hand, I had left over chicken in my little Tupperware tub, and I saved some sauce from last night so all I did was roll them up and stuck them in my little toaster oven until they were warmed through and the cheese was melted. I originally wanted them to look like mummies but the kids said they were monsters so thats what we'll call them=)  Here's the pictures of our little monsters...

On the left is Alaysia's she has her monster chicken enchilada, a tiny jell-o cup, broccoli and cauliflower, cheese stick fingers with olive nails, and a plum. Z has pretzels instead of the cheese fingers.

Wednesday Oct. 6th

I'm always thinking about way to re-use left overs and this is one that my kids really like. This morning I had some rice and pork  leftover from last nights dinner so  I decided to make the kids some fried rice for lunch.  They were going to have eggs this morning so I saved a few bits of them to add to the rice alog with some frozen mixed veggies and diced left over pork. And this is what they had...

This is Alaysia's lunch, she's having a shocked turkey octopus over the fried rice I made, a little bottle with soy sauce, a strawberry, mango kabobs, and for a treat some M&M's.

Z's lunch is the same with a different expression on the octopus. I also added a container with ketchup to his after the picture.

And here's both of the lunches!

This whole idea kind of stared off by me creating fun ways to serve the kids their dinner. My kids weren't very interested in, and could never finish our usual family dinner so I would by them cute plates with pictures on the bottom, or divider plates with little compartments to make it fun for them. I made our usual dinner and the kids would have a variation of what we would eat. I'd make them smaller potions, add fruit or yogurt, and make the food into fun shapes and faces. I'm sure that if you're a parent you've tricked your kids into eating their broccoli by calling it a tiny "tree" well this is the same thing only better! I mean why not make the broccoli into a whole forest along with mountains and animals? It's also a great way to "trick" your kids into trying different fruits and vegetables. I took a picture of what they had for dinner last night, nothing fancy just in a cute plate since my little guy wanted to be carried by me while I was cooking:)
This was Alaysia's dinner grilled pork and bbq sauce to dip, white rice, steamed broccoli and cauliflower with shaped cheese on top, and some fruit.

Tuesday Oct. 5th

Well today was something! I helped out for my son's kindy class and went to visit Alaysia at her lunch time and there were a bunch of yard duties all around her. They were taking pictures of her lunch!!  It was so funny I tried to wiggle my way through to say hi and they wouldn't let me through until she said "Oh, Hi Mom!" Then they were all surprised to see me and were complementing me and asking me a bunch of question. It was really nice to say the least. Well on to their lunches that got so many complements...
This was Alaysia's it has 3 peanut-butter and marshmallow fluff sand"witches", 3 meat kabobs, baby carrots and a strawberry.

Z has 2 sand"witches", 2 meat kabobs, carrots, strawberry, red tiny jell-o cup, and a cheese stick fingers.
Here's a picture of them both.

The witches have ham for hair, one has carrot but I didn't like the way it came out. Their eyes are candy, nose is bread and mouths are cucumber and carrot. Z's finger also has cucumber for the nail.

Monday October 4th

Good morning everyone! This morning I decided to try something new with the kids lunches. I saw these cute little mice on a picture online and decided to give them a try and I am very pleased with the results...
The kids are having some spooky quesadillas, baby carrots and cucumber, pineapple chunks, the cute little sausage mice with candy eyes and chocolate sprinkles for whiskers, a blue container with ketchup under the mice, and a few pumpkin peeps.
Here's both of their boxes together.
Hope I have enough ideas for spooky Halloween-ish lunches all this month!! If you have any ideas let me know!

Friday October 1st

I love October, the trees are changing ,the weather is cooler, and all the holidays and my kiddos birthdays are just around the corner! It's so much fun to decorate the house, and I have a bunch of craft ideas piled up for the kids to do!  We started of the month with a cute Halloween inspired lunch...
Alaysia is having half a homemade blueberry muffin, baby carrots and cherry tomatoes, a fishy shapes boiled egg, some diced cantaloupe and jack o' lantern one on top, mandarin oranges, and a sandwich topped off with cheese ghost!

Z has half a sandwich, mandarin oranges, blueberry muffin and cantaloupe.
Oh, I almost forgot about the egg molds I ordered. I got the fish and car shaped ones and the eggs came out pretty good for my first try:)
Car and fish, next time I'll order some cuter girly ones for Alaysia.
